By the end of 2024, 800 cherries had been featured on US hip-hop visionary Tyler, The Creator's playlist titled “Most Played Songs of 2024.” Additionally, Chicago-based Brigitte Calls Me Baby, who opened for Morrissey during his February Japan tour, cited 800 cherries as their favorite Japanese music in an interview. This marks the band's discovery by international music fans over the past few years. Amidst growing global attention on Japanese music, overseas reappraisal is intensifying.
This work is their third album, released in 1998. Acoustic instruments blend exquisitely with their signature warm electronic textures, creating a minimal, floating sensation reminiscent of Stereolab and a melancholic, organic electronic sound like Donna Regina. The pop melodies, evoking early Salon Music, possess a truly unique sensibility. It's a strange sonic space—unfamiliar yet comfortingly nostalgic.
